Opiate withdrawal detoxification

When you make a firm decision to detox from heavy drugs try to reduce your habit to a manageable level as soon as possible. Barbiturates and benzodiazepines are dangerous to detox from. Some people don’t believe that drugs withdrawal is possible, but many people who are clean now are the best evidence that it is possible. Though, it is rather hard; especially first few days.

Although the symptoms are different for every single person, everyone seems to suffer the worst experience in his life. One person describes it as terrible pains in the muscles and joints; others feel the inability to get comfortable. Most people have difficulty coping with the lack of sleep.

If you have been using Barbiturates and benzodiazepines a medical detoxification is much safer than detoxifying at home. Visit a doctor or nearest drug service; get their phone numbers and addresses for the nearest needle exchange point.

Remove all your fits from the place you're going to do your detox. Spoons, filters, needles and syringes will only remind you of using if you see them lying around. Get a friend to drop them off to a needle exchange point.

Common withdrawal problems are:
Sweating; Diarrhoea; Restlessness; Muscle pains; Hot and cold flushes; Nausea; Stomach cramps; Sleep Disturbance.

These symptoms are hard to bear and the fear of withdrawals makes them even worse. But consider the difference between an enforced withdrawal and a freewill planned withdrawal. One can suffer enforced withdrawal because he is out of drugs or money or sent to prison. Withdrawal period varies on how long for and how much one’s been using, and what his metabolism's like.

Drug peak duration:
STIMULANTS: cocaine, speed, ecstasy 6 -12 hours to 7-10 days;
OPIATES; opium and heroin, morphine, bake 48-72 hours to 1 week;
TRANQUILLISERS: Benzodiazepines, Valium, etc 48-72 hours to 7-10 days;
BARBITURATES: seconol, tuinal etc 48-72 hours to 4-21 days.

Attention: Do not attempt to detoxify from Tranqs and Barbs without medical assistance. It could be dangerous.

While on detox keep a diary writing down your progress and analyzing your condition. Use a calendar and tick-off the days, identify special marks so when you look back over it you can see how much you've gone through. Every day, before going to bad, congratulate yourself. For each week that passes buy yourself something special or go out for a meal.
