Law enforcement and some other government departments conduct drug testing to verify if an individual has prohibited substances in the organism. The testing procedure has evolved into four types of tests: Blood examination Blood exam is the prime way to learn the body condition. These days blood testing is used by employers as a pre-hiring screen. Law enforcement government organs use blood tests to determine the intoxication level of an individual after an accident or arrest. Hospital staff carries out blood tests for all health checks. To run a test a vial or two of blood is drawn by a nurse. The blood undergo through chemical procedures in the lab to determine the types of drugs being consumed and the level of organism toxicity. Drug test procedures generally take longer to obtain an answer than urinalysis or saliva test. Saliva examination In order to determine the presence of alcohol or drugs saliva is collected and mixed with chemicals or placed onto a color-test strip. Saliva exam procedure is also used to check levels of hormones and other body chemicals. These tests were widely used for the illegal drugs testing; now application of saliva tests is declining. The reason is that the time period during which alcohol and drugs can be detected is quite short, 3 hours to 4 days max. Urine examination Urinalysis has long been a medical tool to detect various body malfunctions. Now it is applied for determining of alcohol and drugs presence, as toxic substances can be detected for several days to weeks after consumption, depending upon the type of agent, frequency of use and amount has been taken. One of the first original methods of avoiding drugs detection was to make a mixture of fake urine, and then invisibly pour it from a container into the specimen cup. Some other inspected would save clean urine from when they were not taking drugs and use the urine later. Testing labs got these tricks and now ask clients to empty pockets and leave personal things outside the lavatory when they go there to give urine samples. Along came a contraption called "Whizzinator". It is tied to the waist or leg underneath garments and contains a small pouch for clean or fake urine. Hair examination To determine the type, duration of use, how long ago the drug was taken, hair strands are checked under microscope before and after being chemically treated. Human hair grows about 1/2 inch per month, which enables this type of verification to be made.
